What is the general rule of thumb for Karrimor shoes/boots? Do I need to buy half a size or a size smaller?
I have heard that people need to buy one size or half a size smaller because they are quite wide..can someone let me know if that's the case? I'm looking to buy the Karrimor K2 Ladies sandal which is like the trainers but with cut away holes to let your feet breathe..

No, that's not the case. Boot sizes are standard sizes the same as shoe sizes.
Some come in wider fittings than others as with shoes.
Best with hiking boots is a thin pair of cotton socks and a thick pair of woolen hiking socks over them.
Wear socks the same when you try the boots on, and buy boots or shoes in the afternoon....feet get a little bit bigger through the day and then get back to original size while we lay down at night.
So buying boots in the morning means they are going to be a bit of a tighter fit in the afternoon or the evening especially if you're walking in them.
You need a firm fit but not a tight fit. Friction is what causes blisters and it's normally from having too much space for your feet to slide around in or for the boot to slide against the back of your foot.
Maybe Karrimor isn't the best fit for you...maybe it is.
Try all the boots you can and the ones that fit best are the right ones whichever name is on them.I have two pairs of Karrimor, some Brasher, and Eurohike low-cut boots...more like approach shoes really, which I use for running.
Here's a boot answer from a while back for a lady. Tips on preserving boots etc from the paragraph starting..."Wear the same socks...."

See this one for the big troubles....wet and friction together can make enormous huge dirty great big suffering catfish oh fer cryin' out loud blisters.
Keep dry....get the boots well waterproofed before you start walking in them
The K2 doesn't come with waterproofable ventilation holes though.
See from under the first two links and then under the next two...blister fun....not actually fun. Agony!
